ATX Bull’s Eye Training’s “Introduction to Practical Shooting Matches” is a combination classroom and range time format course which will teach you:

  • How safe gun handling is carried out at matches
    • Cold range concept
    • Safe table areas, what’s allowed and what’s not
    • Muzzle direction
    • Trigger finger control
    • Handling your firearm
  • General overview of differences between ASI, IDPA and USPSA (and mention Steel Challenge)
    • Classification systems
    • Scoring
    • Range commands
  • Gear
  • Range time: Learn how to complete match stages with timer, on command under Range Safety Officer, with various start positions, moving and shooting, and target transitions as you might encounter at a match.

Duration: 1/2 day

Prerequisites:

  • Know and always follow the 4 rules of gun safety:
    • Always keep your muzzle pointed in a safe direction.
    • Always keep your finger off of the trigger until you have made the conscious decision to shoot.
    • Always keep your gun unloaded until ready to use.
    • Always know your target and what is beyond it.
  • Know how to operate your firearm safely, including loading, shooting, unloading, and engaging the safety (if your pistol/PCC has one).
  • Agree to use factory ammunition, no reloads allowed for this class.
  • All equipment used in the live-fire portion of the class is subject to approval by the instructor.
  • You must be 18 years or older. For those under 18, ATX Bull’s Eye Training can offer a modified introduction for youth entering action steel matches.

 Required equipment:

  • Eye and hearing protection rated for shooting sports.
  • A semi-automatic pistol, preferably 9mm and preferably full size.
  • At least 2 magazines, but 4 or more are recommended.
  • 200+ rounds of factory target/plinking ammunition.

 Optional but highly recommended:

  • A gun belt sturdy enough to keep your holster from shifting around, preferably 1.5” to 2” wide.
  • Outside the waistband (OTW) holster, but if you do not have a holster you may participate in the live-fire portion of class from a low ready, barrel or table start. Also, no SERPA holsters, such as those that require a button to be pressed to release the pistol from the holster.
  • If you will be drawing from a holster, it is recommended to have at least two magazine holders on your belt.

Payment must be made in full at least one week prior to class. Course fees are non-refundable. Refunds will be issued if ATX Bull’s Eye Training cancels class due to elements out of our control, including but not limited to weather or minimum attendance not met.
